CVT Pressure Tests
Special Tools Required
A/T oil pressure gauge set( 07406-0020004)
A/T low pressure gauge( 07406-0070001)
1. | Before testing be sure the transmission fluid is filled to the proper level.
|
2. | Raise the front of the vehicle, and make sure it is securely supported.
|
3. | Set the parking brake, and block rear wheels securely.
|
4. | Remove the splash shield.
|
5. | Allow the front wheels to rotate freely.
|
6. | Warm up the engine (the radiator fan comes on), then stop it and connect the tachometer.
|
7. | Connect the special tool (07406-0020004) to the forward clutch pressure inspection hole (A).
|
8. | Connect the special (07406-0020004) to the reverse brake inspection hole (B).
|
9. | Connect a commercial available oil pressure gauge that measures 4,900 kPa (4.90 MPa, 50.0 kgf/cm2, 711 psi) or more, and use the special tool (07406-0020004) to the drive pulley pressure inspection hole (C) and driven pulley pressure inspection hole (D).
NOTE: Drive pulley pressure and driven pulley pressure may be above 3,430 kPa (3.43 MPa, 35.0 kgf/cm2, 498 psi) when there is a transmission problem that cause the PCM to go into the fail-safe mode.
|
10. | Connect the special tool (07406-0070001) to the lubrication pressure inspection hole (E).
|
12. | Shift to D position, and measure the forward clutch pressure at 1,700 rpm (min-1).
|
13. | Shift to R position, and measure the reverse brake pressure at 1,700 rpm (min-1).
|
14. | Shift to N position, and measure the drive pulley pressure and driven pulley pressure at 1,700 rpm (min-1).
|
15. | Measure the lubrication pressure at 2,500 rpm (min-1).
Pressure | Service Limit | Forward Clutch | 1.44-1.71 MPa (14.7-17.4 kgf/cm2, 209-247 psi) | Reverse Brake | 1.44-1.71 MPa (14.7-17.4 kgf/cm2, 209-247 psi) | Drive Pulley | 0.31-0.58 MPa (3.2-5.9 kgf/cm2, 46-84 psi) | Driven Pulley | 0.43-0.91 MPa (4.4-9.3 kgf/cm2, 63-130 psi) | Lubrication | 0.27-0.40 MPa (2.8-4.1 kgf/cm2, 40-58 psi) |
|
16. | Disconnect the special tools and oil pressure gauge after pressure testing.
|
17. | Install the sealing bolts with new sealing washers, and tighten the bolts to 18 N·m, (1.8 kgf·m, 13 lbf·ft). Do not reuse the sealing washers.
|
18. | If the measurements are out of the service limit, problems and probable causes are listed in the table below.
Problem | Probable Cause | No or low forward clutch pressure | | No or low reverse brake pressure | | No or low drive pulley pressure | - ATF pump
- PH regulator valve
- Drive pulley control valve
- Driven pulley control valve
| Drive pulley pressure too high | - PH regulator valve
- Drive pulley control valve
- Driven pulley control valve
- CVT speed change control valve
| No or low driven pulley pressure | - ATF pump
- PH regulator valve
- Drive pulley control valve
- Driven pulley control valve
- CVT pulley pressure control valve
| Driven pulley pressure too high | | No or low lubrication pressure | - ATF pump
- Lubrication valve
