| |
NOTE:
- Information marked with an asterisk (*) applies to CVT model.
- If the MIL indicator is ON, troubleshoot the PGM-FI system first.
- When the engine is running at 2,500 rpm or above and the vehicle speed is 0 km/h (0 mph) or below for 30 seconds (with added), the EPS indicator comes on.
- When the vehicle speed is 10 km/h (6 mph) or above and the engine is running at 280 rpm (min-1) or below for 3 seconds, the EPS indicator comes on.
1. | Start the engine and check the tachometer.
Is the tachometer working correctly?
YES - Go to 2.
NO - Go to 12.
|
3. | Turn the ignition switch OFF.
|
4. | Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
|
5. | Disconnect the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) 3P connector (ECM/PCM connector E (31P) )* and EPS control unit connector B (14P).
|
6. | Check for continuity between the EPS control unit connector B (14P) terminal No. 4 and body ground. Is there continuity?
YES - Repair short to body ground in the wire between the VSS (ECM/PCM)* and EPS control unit.n
NO - Go to 7.
|
7. | Connect the VSS 3P connector (ECM/PCM connector E (31P))*.
|
support it with safety stands in the proper locations.
9. | Reconnect the negative cable to the battery.
|
10. | Turn the ignition switch ON (II). |
11. | Block the right front wheel, and slowly rotate the left front wheel, and measure the voltage between the EPS control unit connector B (14P) terminal No. 4 and body ground. Does the voltage pulse 0 V and 5 V?
YES - Check for loose EPS control unit connectors. If necessary, substitute a known-good EPS control unit and recheck.n
NO - Repair open or short to body ground in the wire between the EPS control unit and VSS (ECM/PCM)* or faulty the VSS.n
|
12. | Turn the ignition switch OFF.
|
13. | Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
|
14. | Disconnect the EPS control unit connector B (14P).
|
15. | Reconnect the negative cable to the battery.
|
17. | Measure the voltage between the EPS control unit connector B (14P) terminal No. 14 and body ground. Is there about 0 V to battery voltage?
YES - Check for loose EPS control unit connectors. If necessary, substitute a known-good EPS control unit and recheck.n
NO - Go to 18. |
18. | Turn the ignition switch OFF.
|
19. | Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
|
20. | Disconnect the ECM/PCM connector E (31P) (with ETCS model: ECM connector No. 4 (40P)).
|
21. | Connect the ECM/PCM connector terminal E26 (with ETCS model: ECM connector terminal No. 4 (40P) terminal No. 18 and body ground with a jumper wire. |
22. | Check for continuity between the EPS control unit connector B (14P) terminal No. 14 and body ground. Is there continuity?
YES - Go to 23.
NO - Repair open in the wire between the EPS control unit and ECM/PCM (with ETCS model: ECM).n
|
23. | Disconnect the gauge assembly 30P connector.
|
24. | Check for continuity between the EPS control unit connector B (14P) terminal No. 14 and body ground. Is there continuity?
YES - Repair short to body ground in the wire between the EPS control unit and ECM/PCM (with ETCS model: ECM).n
NO - Check for loose EPS control unit connectors. If necessary, substitute a known-good EPS control unit and recheck.n |
