Dies right after it started

Car: Acura, Integra, 1994     -    Back to Fix-It    -    Acura Integra Repair Manuals

Q.I have a 94 Acura Integra, in the pass month, when I go to start, it start then die right away, I can see the RPM goes up to 1500 and the engine stop. When I go to try and start it again, all it does is crank and won't start. After waiting for 5 minutes or so. it will start and runs fine. It is acting up more and more now, once a couple of days. What could be the problem? Some say it is the fuel pump and some say it could be the main replay. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Answer This sounds like a main relay when you turn the key "on" the pump should run for 3 seconds and then stop listen for this when it starts and then see if it runs when it wont start. If it isn't running when it wont start then it's the main relay.
If it starts and then dies as soon as you let the key go then it's the ignition switch.

Addition When it start and when I let the key go, it keeps running for about another 5 seconds or so, then it almost like they are no gas going to the engine or something, the RPM slowly drop, then die. I think I am going to try an replace the main reply and see that help first. Just curious, can a non-machanic replace the relay himself? In this case, of course that would be me? Do you have any articles or step by step instructions I can look at? Or a website I can go to even. Thank you very much for your help.

Answer it's easy to replace. Just 1 10mm bolt It's above the hood lever. Just remove the bolt and pull it out
