240sx bad hesitation

240sx bad hesitation

wondering if anyone can help out. Friend's 96 (97?) 240sx will actually cut out for about 2 seconds at a time around 3100 rpm and go into what feels like a gimp mode then return to normal. It feels like a fuel problem to me but he says he just replaced the fuel pump and he thinks it's the air flow sensor (Not MAF but the one close to the engine block). Help please!

Ciao,

3 things possible

It could be a fuel problem so check fuel filter and make sure the car is getting enough fuel pressure. Secondly, it could be a clogged catalytic converter just run the car and see if the cat is getting cherry red. Or thirdly, the transmission wiring is disconnected or cut meaning the 5th gear sensor is shorting out causing the car to limit the revs. Hope that helps.
