1988 Idle problems

1988 Idle problems

Hi,
We are in the process of getting an '88' Accord from family members, to use as my DHs "beater" car to and from work. It runs well, BUT it has some issues. those are:

* Engine will not idle lower than 2500 RPM

* High Humidity seems to effect it.

* If you press the breaks hard, it will cut off.

Now the family members have speculated it could be anything from a vacuum leak, break booster malfunction to problems with the master cylinder, but none of this has been confirmed. According to the family member who was the original owner, they had it at the Honda dealership for a long time and they could not figure out what was wrong with it, so they gave it to another family member.

The car is in great shape otherwise and is driveable if you keep the RPMs up. The interior and exterior look great and this car was well cared for. It would be a great little car to get back on the road.

Has anyone had these problems? Does anyone know where we could start looking for the source of this problem?

All the DH needs is a place to start, he is a gear head and has a particular passion for imports, so fixing it if we knew where to start would not be a hard thing for him to do.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

TIA!
