    Need help starting out
by: GhostDx on Sunday, March 20, 2005 at 01:43 EDT
Here goes, I just got my drivers license and my mom's old 97 Civic DX, and i'm looking to be a part of the sportcompact/racing world. I am already familiar with all of the parts and systems of cars(i did some painstaking reading), however have never laid a hand on an engine. I would really appreciate it if anyone could give me any info on starting upgrades i should get/what tools i'll need/how much things cost/parts that are street legal in california/helpful websites/what i need to learn/places i should get parts from and any tips you have in general.

Feel free to email me with any tips you have,

    thanks,
    Ghost

    Hey ghost,
I too used to live in California, and am moving back soon. I would suggest starting out with the basic RAM air intake (not cold air because water could get in there unless you buy a bypass valve), and a nice 2.5 inch exhaust front to back, with a cali legal cat. That should get the air moving through your d15a1 engine quite well. as far as tools, maybe just go with a basic tool set with metric and standard to begin with. From here, youre on your own, but just remember when lookin for a little power, Nitrous is like a hooker, you hit it a couple times, and you have to pay again. Peace.
