    94Jetta Stops Unexpectedly
by: mjseidel on Sunday, October 29, 2006 at 01:25 EDT
My son owns a used 94 Jetta we bought a couple months back. The oil sending light happens to come on and a sound is heard to warn you your oil is low. When we have checked the dipstck, it is between the marks and we have kept it topped off. The car has around 180,000 miles on it. Also last night he went around a corner and the oil light came on again and the engine just stopped. He let set for a few minutes and then it started right up again and we are not sure where to start looking for the problem. Any help or ideas would be appreciated. Thanks,
    Michael

If your dipstick tells you that the oil level is acceptable, and that noise shows up (I'm assuming a tick or some indicator of starvation), I'd start with the oil pick-up tube in the oil pan. Given the number of miles, the screen may be clogged or delivery to the oil pump might be hampered by a loose tube. Pump could even be shot. Just a guess, but that was the first thing that came to mind.
