ok so ive been driving my Jetta for the last three weeks. traveling from Wisconsin and ending up in Savannah,GA. everything has been fine. Knew when i got to town I needed an oil change and my bearings repacked but going to my first day at my new job the engine just shuddered and stopped running. all the warning lights came on and it wouldn't turn over again. got it towed and had a mechanic give it a look. tells me that he needs to replace the starter but he tells me that he can't promise thats the actual problem. but for sure he wants a ton to do it and can't get it running again. now he did tell me that the engine turns with a wrench and it didn't seize up.

so anybody had to deal with this before?
