90 thousand timing belt replacement question

Car: Honda, Civic LX, 2001, small4     -    Back to Fix-It    -    Honda Civic LX Repair Manuals

Q.Have another question about my Honda Civic LX. It's a 2001. Got it new at the end of 2000. It has 81,000 miles on it and has been a great little car. As you can see I put less than 10,000 miles a year on it. It's almost time to replace the timing belt. The manufacturer recommends a 90,000 mile replacement. Do you think this is too early? The Honda dealer will do the job for around $400.00. The Ford dealer will do the job for around $200.00. Which would you recommend when I change it out ?

Answer I would doit before the 90k max, if the belt breaks, it will ruin the engine or heads, as for who should do it, i would go with the cheaper, these are not difficult to replace, and any skilled tech should be able to do it, But dont wait for the last minute, if it breaks, it will be expensive
