Q.I have a 2000 Subaru Outback with automatic transmission. It goes into reverse ok, but when I put it into drive it takes 5-10 minutes to engage. It is worse once it warms up.

I already checked/done: I've checked the transmission oil. The level looks ok but the color is clear.

Answer This is actually a fairly common problem with these transmissions of that year.
There is a seal inside the transmission that allows the pressure to "bleed" off, causing severe time lag.
The transmission will have to be torn down to replace the seal.
The cost is extremely high to do this, even at the dealership level, we were installing used transmissions or remans for the customer.
This is due to the fact that the labor is so high to tear down and repair the transmission. I wold suggest a used transmission be installed to resolve the problem. Hope this helps! Thanks.
