More Info required How does the Pilot idle? Does the transmission ever malfunction?

Addition thks, it idles fine, no problems w/ trans.

Answer Ok it could be a few different issues. One is the valves are out of adjustment the other is to much carbon build up in the motor.
What I would do first is have a top engine service done. This is where a chemical is run through the vacuum line of the intake manifold and clears out all excess carbon.
This alone will bring you back up to 20 mpg. If there's still an issues then have the valves adjusted. Other possible issues could be under inflated tires, clogged egr port or the beginning of a failing o2 sensor.

Addition What do these 4 things cost
1. Top engine service
2.valve adjust
3.egr port what is this?
4.o2 sensor
Can my mechanic do these or dealer only? Thks.

Answer Top engine service about 100 dollars at a shop.
Valve adjustment 150
Egr ports, these are the ports that sometimes get clogged with carbon not allowing the egr valve to operate correctly and will affect gas mileage.
O2 sensor about 300 at the dealer. You dont want to use aftermarket O2 sensors they do not work well with Hondas computers.
All this will be more if the work is done at the dealer.
Your mechanic will have no issues doing this. Start with the top engine service .
