Clutch question. Do I need to replace it?

Car: Honda, Del-Sol, 1995     -    Back to Fix-It    -    Honda Repair Manuals

Q.My Del Sol has 80K. It looks like her clutch is gone, what's the worst case scenario for replacing it?
clutch feels like jelly and I am unable to shift into any gear. It is the original clutch.

Answer What exact model do you have (ex. S, Si, VTEC)?
You can try to adjust the pedal. Here:
PEDAL HEIGHT/FREE-PLAY ADJUSTMENT
See Figure 1
Measure the clutch pedal disengagement height.
Measure the clutch pedal free-play.
Adjust the clutch pedal free-play by turning the clutch cable adjusting nut, found at the end of the clutch cable housing near the release shaft.
Turn the adjusting nut until the clutch pedal free-play is 0.6-0.8 in. (15-20mm).
After adjustment, make sure the free-play at the tip of the release arm is 0.12-0.16 in. (3.0-4.0mm).

If that does not make it better, you will have to replace the clutch disc, pressure plate, throw out bearing & resurface the flywheel. Here:

Fig. 1: Clutch assembly components.
Cost of parts from Autozone will be $153.99-325.99. Honda will be $183.46-246.64 on line price. It will cost about $35-50 to resurface flywheel. A little more if you want to replace bearing. Labor is about 4-6 hours. You would have to check your local Honda dealer or repair shop for exact labor rate. Honda dealers on average of about $85-110 per hour.
I would guess anywhere from about $400-$650 total to have done. That is from local repair shops to dealer range.
