The heater/air conditioning fan is not working.

Car: Chevrolet, Impala, 2004, 3.8 v6     -    Back to Fix-It

Q.The heater/air conditioning fan is not working. When I turn on the switch, the air conditioning light lites up, I can hear the Air Conditioner working, but nothing blows. Any advice on where to start troubleshooting? The switch, the fan motor? all has been running well, it just stopped the other day 65000 miles. 2004 Impala.

I turn the switch, the indicator lights go on for air conditioning, etc, but nothing blows. The air conditioner motor is turning, I can hear/feel it cycling.

Answer The first thing that I would check is to make sure all fuses are good. If they are, then it sounds like the blower module has gone out. It is located underneath the passenger side dash all the way to the back by the firewall; it is a rectangular box. I would recommend buying the blower module before attempting to fix it so you can use it as a reference. This is a very common problem.

Addition how hard is it to get the part out? Easy access?
I am pretty good around cars. used to do a lot of work around them when you still could. Could you tell me the general steps in removing it, or can I sort of stumble through?
and about how much does that module run?

Answer The module is around $50 from the dealer. You will need to pull down the plastic cover under the dash on the passenger side.
Then run your hand all the way to the back and you will see where the module plugs into the the blower box. It is held in by 3 or 4 small screws.
You may have to pull the carpet with the rubber backing away to get easy access to the screws. If you have a side ratcheting screwdriver socket set, this will make your life easier to remove the screws. Once you have the module out, put the new one in and reverse the installation.

Addition My chevy dealer wants $104 for the module, maybe I better shop around. Thnk you. If you know any way to make the stinkin gas pedal more comfortable on a long drive, throw that my way..what a pain, literally. My ankle gets all bent out of shape.
Thank you,
Randy.

Answer Maybe shape the metal rod holding the pedal you may have to twist the rod to angle it the way you like.
