When I start my car cold, the idling is rough and rather slow.
Car: Honda, Accord, 1996, 2.2L Vtech - Back to Fix-It - Honda Accord Repair Manuals
Q.When I start my car cold, the idling is rough and rather slow. The RPM is about 300 and the car shakes. After about 30-60 seconds, the idling will smooth out at about 850 RPM. Even after the car is warmed up and has been driven for about 10 miles, the idling will be slow and erratic if I go in to a store for 15 minutes and get back in my car and start it again. Then it will run smooth after about 15 seconds or so.
More Info required Do you have any issues with overheating or loss of coolant?
Was there any instances of overheating before?
Does operating the AC causes the idling to drop and then increase?
Addition I did have issues with overheating before. I kept losing coolant to the overfill tank and it wasn't returning back to the radiator as the engine cools down, but when the themostat was replaced the coolant system is working good now. When I check the radiator when the engine is cold, the coolant level is right at the filler neck. When I turn on the A/C, there is a slight drop in RPM, but the idling is good as long as the engine is warmed up.
Answer The symptoms indicates the IAC is not working perfectly and some cleaning should solve the problem. Get the throttle body and IAC cleaned and check/adjust the valve clearance.
