Engine light is on.
Car: Honda, Civic, 1999 - Back to Fix-It - Honda Civic Repair Manuals
Q.Wife has a Honda and the engine light is on. Wife says its hard to shift and bucks after switching gear. She also says, and this is what confuses me, it smells burnt. Any ideas? Is it a clutch problem?
More Info required is this a manual or auto trans civic...

Answer the buring she is smelling is the clutch slipping. It sounds as though the clutch is worn out. If she lets the clutch out and the car revs but will not accelerate then you will need to have the clutch, pressure plate, flywheel and throwout bearing replaced to fix this issue. The engine light is likely a seperate issue and you would need to get to an autozone or ammco to have the code pulled as they will do this for free for you and then you can see what the light is on for....
